Kefason heads to Kaduna central prison as court denies him bail.

Kaduna State Magistrate Court has denied Steven Kefason bail and ordered him to be remanded in Kaduna central prison until 14th June when his case will come for mention.

Delivering his ruling on the bail application brought by Steven Kefason’s lawyer on Thursday 6th June, the trail judge said the accused has shown the tendencies to commit the same offence again, judging from the fact that he is facing multiple trails on similar offence in another court and judging from his antecedents and social media posts before and even while proceedings on the case are ongoing.

Kefason has been in police custody since May 21st on the order of the court to allow the prosecuting team conclude investigation. With the investigation concluded, the court has sent him to Kaduna Central Prison to await trial on the case of defamation of character, inciting disturbances, injurious falsehood and cyber stalling contrary to section 372, 78,373 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State 2017, and section 24 (5) (a) and (b) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition Prevention) Act 2015.

The accused has denied the charges brought against him, saying his twitter and Facebook accounts were hacked but has never reported to Facebook or twitter about the hacks. Soon after his arrest on 10 May, his twitter handle was deactivated but restored back few days after trails began with the twits constituting material evidence in the trail deleted.
